What are Tooth Gems?

Tooth gems are semi-permanent jewels applied to the surface of your teeth using a safe, dental-grade adhesive. This non-invasive procedure is similar to how traditional braces are attached, making it a fun and stylish accessory for your smile!

Are Tooth Gems Safe?

  • Dental-grade materials: Ensuring no damage to your teeth.

  • Non-invasive: There’s no alteration of your tooth structure.

  • Safe crystals & Gold: We use authentic Austrian - Bohemian  crystals, which are lead-free and stain-resistant. We also only use 18K gold, white gold, or rose gold charms which are completely safe for your mouth.

Removing Tooth Gems.

Tooth gems are designed to fall off naturally over time. If you want them removed sooner, only a dental professional can safely do so without damaging your enamel. The tooth will be buffed and polished to remove any remaining glue. Do not attempt to remove a tooth gem yourself as this can cause damage.

Setting an appointment.

  • Appointments require a non-refundable deposit of $30. This deposit will go towards the final cost of the service. The deposit can be made in cash at the shop or via Venmo (foolish-fetish)

  • Any cancellations/rescheduling must be done at least 48 hours before the appointment, otherwise it will result in the loss of your deposit.

  • We also take tooth gem walk-ins on Wednesdays and Saturdays if spur of the moment is more your thing!

Application Process

  • Duration: The entire application process typically takes 15-45 minutes, depending on the complexity and number of gems.

  • Feeling: You may notice the gem in your mouth initially, but you’ll get used to it within a few days! Depending on the design, a gold charm may cause slight discomfort for the first few days, but the gold will soften and become unnoticeable.

  • Comfort: There’s no drilling or pain involved. The application is quick and safe using dental grade etch and composite, which is then cured with an LED light to ensure a long lasting bond.

Can I get a Tooth Gem?

  • Eligibility:  You can get a tooth gem if you are 18 years or older.

  • Not for Everyone: Tooth gems cannot be applied to crowns, veneers, fillings, partials, artificial teeth, or if you have braces. We also cannot apply gems if you currently have gum issues such as inflamed gums or gum disease. Please see a dentist beforehand to get assessed if tooth gems are right for you.

How to prepare for appointment.

  • Brush and Floss: This helps provide a clean surface for gem application.

  • Limit Oral Hygiene Products: Avoid using mouthwash or whitening strips on the day of your appointment, as these can affect the bonding process.

  • Communicate Health Concerns: Inform your gem applicator about any allergies, sensitivities, or dental conditions you may have.

  • Arrive with Clean Teeth: If possible, consider scheduling a dental cleaning prior to your appointment for optimal results.

  • Be Ready to Discuss Design: Think about the gem design or placement you want, and be ready to discuss any ideas or preferences with your applicator.

  • Plan for Aftercare: Understand that you’ll need to follow specific aftercare instructions post-appointment, so plan your day accordingly.

How Long do Tooth Gems last?

Tooth gems can last anywhere from one month to over a year. Their longevity depends on individual factors such as:

  • Oral hygiene

  • Lifestyle and dietary habits

  • The natural acidity of your saliva

  • The size of the gem - the larger the gem, the quicker it may fall off

What if I wear a retainer?

Tooth gems are not advised for those using a clear plastic retainer, as it won't fit properly over the gem. If you have a wire retainer, please bring it to your appointment so we can position the gem to avoid any interference.

Maintenance and Care.

  • Dental Hygiene: You can still have your teeth cleaned by a professional. Just practice good hygiene and avoid brushing directly over the gem for the first 24 hours, and avoid using an electric toothbrush for the first 48 hours.

  • Food Restrictions: No eating or drinking for the first 2 hours post-application, water being the exception. Avoid hard foods for the first 12 hours.

  • You will receive a more in depth aftercare sheet after your appointment.
